Bollywood: Morocco hosts shooting of Indian blockbuster “Captain India”

Morocco continues to attract international movie-makers and producers for shooting their blockbusters which enable the country to boost its tourism and enhance the Nation branding.

According to press reports, “Captain India” is starring actor Kartik Aaryan and directed by Shimit Amin. The movie is scheduled to begin filming in India and Morocco in March 2026, with a release planned for the first half of 2027.

Insiders say that a location recce has already been completed in Morocco. The film tells the story of an Indian Air Force pilot who conducted one of the most successful rescue operations from a war-torn country. It is inspired by true events and will revisit a moment in time where a man goes beyond his own pain and suffering to save thousands.

Morocco’s film studios and vibrant cities are often used as a backdrop for Hollywood films set in the desert, the Middle East and Asia. Nicknamed Africa’s Hollywood, the country has a long history of welcoming foreign film crews, especially historical dramas set in ancient Rome or Greece, including “Troy”, “Kingdom of Heaven” and “Gladiator”, starring Russell Crowe.

Earlier classics shot against the Moroccan backdrop include Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Man Who Knew Too Much”, Orson Welles’ “Othello” in the fifties and “Lawrence of Arabia” in the sixties.
