Imane Khelif’s gender scandal embarrasses Algerian regime

The Algerian regime who defended Imane Khelif as a “female born” is embarrassed as leaked medical documents reveal the Olympic boxer is actually biologically male.

The report, originally published by 3 Wire Sports and widely cited, includes a chromosome analysis conducted by Dr. Lal Path Labs, an accredited laboratory in New Delhi. The test result explicitly states: “Chromosome analysis reveals male karyotype.”

This test was reportedly conducted ahead of the 2023 World Championships, where Khelif was disqualified by the International Boxing Association (IBA) for failing gender eligibility requirements. Despite this, she was later cleared to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which had stripped the IBA of its authority over boxing and allowed athletes to compete based on the gender listed on their passports

Former UK female boxer, Sharron Davies, blamed the IOC for letting Khelif abuse women in the ring.

“The truth was always there. We all knew that this person had two positive sex screening tests. And the people that are to blame for all of this are the IOC, she said.

“Imane Khelif knew he was biologically male. He knew he was cheating. His whole team knew — nobody cared what damage they might inflict on a female,” she told British media.

While no retroactive action has been confirmed, there is growing pressure from athletes and federations to strip Khelif of her 2024 Olympic gold medal, which she won in the women’s welterweight division despite being disqualified from the 2023 World Championships for failing a gender eligibility test.

Diplomatic embarrassment

Algeria has celebrated Khelif’s gold medal as a national triumph. Algerian officials dismissed calls to ban Khelif from competing with women as heinous campaigns. But the recent gender reveal has put the regime in an embarrassing situation.

Trump, prior to his re-election, commented on Khelif as a man saying: “He was a good male boxer. And [his adversary Carini] didn’t even go down. He hit her with two jabs and she said ‘I’m out.’”

A UN Security Council exchange last summer saw Russia use Khelif’s case to criticize Western double standards, prompting a defensive and now discredited response from Algerian diplomats.

The Russian representative used Imane’s participation in the Paris Olympics to accuse Western countries of using the games to advance an LGBT agenda that he said “was damaging women’s rights and dignity.”

At the Olympic Games in Paris female boxers are being publicly subjected to violence (by) athletes who had previously failed hormonal tests done by the International Boxing Federation and, according to the federation and according to common sense, are men,” he said

In response to Russia, Algerian representative Toufik Koudri said Khelif was born a female, telling the council that “There isn’t a shred of doubt on that matter, except for those who have [a] vague political agenda.”

Khelif was later received as a hero by Tebboune after the 2024 Olympic games and has since toured the country in a male attire.
