Algeria gets highest Trump tariff in North Africa

Trump has imposed a 31% reciprocal trade tariff on Algeria, the highest levy in north Africa.

Algeria, which charges a tariff to the US at 59%, was part of a long list of countries hit by import taxes, which Trump imposed via executive order.

Tunisia was targeted with 28%, while it charges the US 55%. Libya was targeted with 31%.

The US imposed the minimum 10% on both Egypt and Morocco. The Kingdom is the only country in Africa with whom Washington has an FTA.

Trump announced sweeping 10% tariffs on all imports, including those from Canada and Mexico.

Some of the US largest trade partners including China, the European Union, South Korea and India were hit by import tariffs of 34%, 20%, 25% and 26% respectively.
