Dutch, Interpol-flagged for alleged arms trafficking, arrested in Casablanca

Moroccan police arrested an Interpol-flagged Dutch citizen of Turkish origin on Thursday at Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport. The man is wanted for alleged involvement in arms trafficking.

Casablanca police detained the suspect immediately upon arriving from Istanbul, Türkiye, after a routine security check flagged an international arrest warrant tying him to alleged participation in illegal firearm possession and trafficking.

The anonymous suspect is in police custody pending extradition proceedings to the Netherlands, where the arrest warrant was issued.

Moroccan authorities have formally notified their Dutch counterparts of the arrest and have begun the legal extradition process.

The individuals’ arrest highlights Morocco’s increased commitment to international security as the Kingdom prepares to host major sporting events such as the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal.

Moroccan law enforcement agencies have increasingly prioritized tracking and apprehending individuals wanted globally for cross-border offenses and have bolstered collaboration among Interpol and European judicial bodies.
