Morocco sends more aid to flood-hit Spain

A humanitarian convoy consisting of 13 trucks (12 tankers and a repair and tool vehicle) departed from Tanger-Med on Nov 16, and was sent to flood-stricken Valencia, Spanish news agency EFE reported. It was the second assistance convey sent by Morocco to Valencia.

The first convoy had arrived last week. It included 25 truck vacuum pumps and 70 rescuers and 34 Moroccan volunteers who were mobilized to provide logistical and humanitarian assistance.

Following the floods that devastated several regions in Spain, King Mohammed VI had instructed the Interior Minister to inform his Spanish peer of Morocco’s full readiness to dispatch rescue teams and provide all necessary assistance to Spain to cope with this natural disaster.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez thanked Morocco for its solidarity and quick response.

Several voices were joined to that of PM Sanchez to express thanks and gratitude to King Mohammed VI for Morocco’s precious and efficient support to the rescue efforts in the Valencia region.

They all praised the speed and efficiency of the resources mobilized by Morocco in support of the intervention teams, describing this support as a precious contribution to the rescue operations and the management efforts of this crisis, and as a gesture that illustrates the perfect solidarity and solid partnership between Spain and Morocco.

These include Director-General of Civil Protection and Emergencies, Virginia Barcones, the president of the Valencian Community Volunteer Platform, Miguel Salvador, and the president of Jovesólides, Valencia’s largest association, Lourdes Mirón, among others.

The recent floods in Valencia have resulted in over 200 deaths, numerous casualties, and extensive damage to infrastructure, transforming roads into rivers and leaving many areas without basic services.
