Dakhla Atlantic port, 27% complete
Works are ongoing to build the Dakhla port, in the Moroccan Sahara, with 27% achieved so far.
The port is designed to serve as a commercial hub for southern Morocco and West Africa and has been at the heart of the King’s Atlantic Initiative, which aims at helping landlocked Sahel states access global trade and the ocean.
In 2025, 2.16 billion dirhams ($216 mln) will be allocated to the construction of this mega-project, which will cost in total $1.361 billion, according to a regional investment distribution note attached to the 2025 budget law.
The port is planned to open in 2028 with three bases dedicated to trade, maritime fishing, and ship repair.
Moroccan authorities have previously announced plans to set up free industrial zones to attract investments that shall benefit from the deep-water port.
