Morocco to import Brazilian olive oil
Brazil will be exporting olive oil to Morocco, where consecutive droughts compromised the domestic harvest and sent prices higher.
The decision was announced by Brazil’s farming ministry, which said Morocco was the third destination for Brazil’s agricultural exports to Africa.
In 2023, Morocco imported from Brazil $1.23 billion-worth of agricultural goods. In the first nine months this year, Brazil’s exports of farm produce to Morocco reached 903 million dollars.
Morocco has authorized the import of a quantity of 10,000 tons of olive oil from Brazil until year’s end, according to the agricultural attaché at the Brazilian embassy to Rabat.
Imports from Brazil would help Morocco meet its olive oil needs, amid prospects of a 11% drop in olive oil production.
As food prices remain the main driver of inflation in the country, Morocco will cancel from January to December 2025 the value added tax and customs duty on all cattle imports (beef, sheep, goats, and camel) as well as their red meat in addition to brown sugar and olive oil.
