U.S. Congressmen in Morocco to Strengthen Further Strategic Partnership
A bipartisan U.S. Congressional Delegation, led by Republican Representative Doug Lamborn, Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, is visiting Morocco to discuss ways of enhancing further cooperation ties between the two countries, friends and longstanding allies.
The delegation includes Congressmen from the Financial Services, Procurement, Foreign Affairs, Budget, Agriculture, Energy and Commerce Committees.
On Monday, members of the delegation held separate meetings with minister in charge of National Defense Administration Abdeltif Loudyi and with minister of foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita.
During their talks with Mr. Loudyi, the congressmen hailed the strategic partnership, the strong friendship and cooperation ties existing between the United States and Morocco.
They also praised the Kingdom’s leadership in promoting peace and stability in Africa, the Mediterranean and the Middle East for shared development, growth and prosperity.
M. Loudyi lauded the U.S.-Morocco military cooperation and the implementation of the Roadmap for Defense Cooperation 2020-2030 which seeks to enhance to military partnerships and interoperability between the two countries armies.
Speaking to journalists following their meeting with Bourita, the congressmen paid tribute to the “great friendship” and historic ties existing between the two countries, saying that Morocco is one of America’s oldest friends, which recognized the United States while it was still battling for independence in 1777.
“We are so fortunate to have Morocco as our partner,” said Representative David J. Trone, noting their visit has enabled them to explore avenues for mutually beneficial relationships and promote cooperation between the Kingdom and the United States.
