Morocco backs UAE’s sovereignty over Iran-occupied Islands
Morocco reiterated its position in support for the UAE’s sovereignty over three islands occupied by Iran.
Morocco’s stance in support of the UAE’s territorial integrity is “steady and permanent,” Moroccan representative to the UN Omar Hilale told the Fourth Committee.
Morocco also backed an Emirati request to end Iran’s occupation of the three Emirati islands through direct negotiations or by referring the matter to the International Court of Justice.
Iran occupied the islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa in 1971, prior to the formation of the UAE. Back then, the islands were under the jurisdiction of the emirates of Ras Al Khaima and Sharjah.
