AfDB lends Togo $103mln to support climate resilient farming

The African Development Bank approved a loan of 102.7 million dollars to help Togo farmers boost their resilience to climate change and foster sustainable agricultural practices.

The funding also aims at helping farmers reduce greenhouse gas emissions and provides support for small irrigation systems covering at least 39,179 ha, in addition to the provision of 2,59 MW or all the solar energy needed for water pumping, the bank said in a statement.

It also provides for the installation of small renewable energy equipment with a cumulative capacity of 14,69 MW and the development of approximately 40,000 hectares of agroforestry to sequester carbon.

The AfDB has a portfolio of about CFA202 billion ($ 300 mln) in Togo, with an overall disbursement rate of 61.5%.

The AfDB supports key sectors in Togo like transport, social, energy, and agricultural production.
