Italy to host Libyan Energy & Economy Summit on September 23

Rome will host the second Libya Energy and Economy Summit on September 23, featuring representatives from the National Oil Corporation and leading private sector firms from both Libya and Italy.

The summit will focus on exploration and development opportunities, Libya’s role in the global energy market, and potential partnerships in energy generation, transmission, and distribution. Special emphasis will be placed on boosting renewable energy production and enhancing cooperation with Europe, reported the Italian Nova Agency.

The summit, whose third edition will be held in Tripoli in 2025, aims to attract international investments in oil, gas, and renewable energy projects, including a 500-megawatt solar initiative with Malta. Discussions will also cover the Fezzan refinery project to address local fuel shortages and stabilize oil production.

Despite Libya’s substantial oil, gas, and renewable energy potential, the country continues to face significant challenges. The summit is expected to provide a key platform for fostering economic growth and strengthening Libya’s energy infrastructure.

Italy remains Libya’s largest oil importer, having bought about 14.5 million tons of Libyan oil in the first quarter of 2024, according to Nova.
