Rail Industry: Senegal looks forward to benefiting from Morocco’s expertise
Morocco will share its railway expertise with Senegal under cooperation agreements signed Thursday in Rabat by the two countries’ national railway operators and training centers.
The signing ceremony was co-chaired by Morocco’s Minister of Transport Mohammed Abdeljalil and Senegal’s peer Malick Ndiaye. The two ministers lauded the strong ties existing between the two countries and voiced commitment to strengthen further cooperation not only in the railway maintenance but also in road & air transportation and road safety.
According to experts, the Moroccan railway industry has become a leading player in Africa’s rail sector. With its high-speed trains and extensive infrastructure development, the North African Kingdom has emerged as a key hub for rail connectivity within the African continent.
Morocco’s high-speed rail network, inaugurated in 2018, is the first of its kind in Africa. The high-speed line connects the cities of Tangier and Casablanca, offering fast and efficient travel experience for both domestic and foreign passengers.
Morocco’s rail network is one of the most modern and developed in Africa. Its 2200 km long railway network is the biggest in the Maghreb and the second most important in the continent while numerous rail projects have been launched to improve and expand it.
Thanks to renovations and railway stations extension, Morocco has become one of the most thriving markets attracting the interest of major train & rail manufacturers and investors.
