Morocco’s Football Olympic Team make history with stunning victory over Egypt, win bronze medal
Morocco won their first-ever medal at the Men’s Olympic Football Tournament with a stunning victory over Egypt. The Atlas Lions thrashed Egypt 6-0 on Thursday to finish third at the Men’s Olympic Football Tournament Paris 2024.
The Moroccans won the bronze medal. Their third-place at the Paris Olympics is an important achievement, after finishing fourth behind Argentina, France and Croatia at the Qatar World Cup in 2022.
Moroccan Striker Soufaine Rahimi scored two goals (26’ and 64’) against the Egyptians and became the first player in Olympic history to score in six straight matches.
Abde Ezzalzouli (23’), Bilal El Khannouss (51’), Akram Nakach (73’) and Achraf Hakimi (87’) also scored for Morocco in the historic win.
Morocco trounced the United States 4-0 at Parc des Princes in Paris in the quarterfinals but lost to Spain 2-1 in the semifinals. The U23 Olympic Moroccan team won Group B after a 2-1 win against Argentina, a 2-1 loss to Ukraine, and a 3-0 win against Iraq.
