Morocco offers 3000 legal cannabis farming permits in 2024

The national authority for the regulation of cannabis-related activities (ANRAC) offered 3000 this year, for the production, processing, and import of cannabis-related products compared to just 609 last year.

The number of farmers who received farming permits rose to 2600 in the provinces of Taounate, Chaouen, Al Hoceima, while 200 permits were delivered to activities relating to industrial processing, marketing, import and export of seeds, ANRAC said.

ANRAC has greenlighted the cultivation of the local strain “Beldia”, which has a low thc and requires less water compared to imported seeds.

The cultivated area with Beldia was 732, that is 35% of the total areas dedicated to legal cannabis.

In April, Morocco reported its first legal export of the substance to Switzerland for medical purposes

Last year, Morocco’s legal cannabis harvest stood at 294 tons, the first since the country legalized the cultivation of cannabis for medicine and industry use in 2021.
