Morocco condemns the shooting near a mosque in Oman’s capital Muscat
Morocco expressed on Wednesday its condemnation of the shooting near a mosque in Wadi al-Kabir district in the Omani capital Muscat, which resulted in several deaths and injuries.
The Kingdom reaffirms its solidarity with the brotherly Sultanate of Oman in all measures taken to preserve its security and stability, as well as the safety of its citizens and residents, the Moroccan Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The Omani Police said on Tuesday that nine people were killed in the shooting, including the three perpetrators and a policeman. More than two dozen people of various nationalities were injured, including four Omani first responders, the police said.
The jihadist ISIS group has claimed responsibility for the attack, saying in a statement late on Tuesday that three of its “suicide attackers” fired on worshippers at the mosque and exchanged gunfire with Omani security forces until morning, Reuters reported.
