Morocco’s Ambassador in Paris presents her credentials to French President

Mrs Samira Sitail presented, on Thursday at a ceremony at the Elysée Palace, her credentials to President Emmanuel Macron, as Morocco’s Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary Ambassador to France.

Mrs Sitail was appointed to the position by King Mohammed VI on November 30, 2023.
The French Ambassador to Morocco had presented his credentials to King Mohammed VI in Rabat early October 2023.

Ties between Rabat and Paris have been warming up lately after a series of diplomatic crises that marked bilateral relations during the past two years.

The warming up highlighted by the visit last week of French Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné to Morocco, where he held talks with his Moroccan peer Nasser Bourita.

Few days before his visit, Stéphane Séjourné told the media he would invest in improving ties with Morocco, saying that “the Republic’s President has personally asked me to invest in French-Moroccan relations to open a new chapter in our ties. I will be committed to that.”

“Now, it is time to move forward. I will do everything in the upcoming weeks and months so that France and Morocco get closer,” he said, adding that his priority will be “rebuilding trust.”

As a signal of the thawing of Moroccan-French ties, France’s First Lady Brigitte Macron, welcomed lately the three sisters of King Mohammed VI of Morocco at the Élysée Palace for a luncheon.
