Morocco renews urgent call for immediate ceasefire in Gaza

Morocco has renewed its urgent call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, reaffirming its rejection of any form of violence against civilians and stressing the need to put an end to the dangerous situation which is no longer acceptable on legal and humanitarian levels.

Representing Morocco at an international conference held Thursday in Paris, Fouad Yazourh, Director General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said Rabat is committed to achieving peace, stability, well-being, and prosperity for all the region’s peoples.

In coordination with all partners, Morocco supports international mobilization for immediate cessation of hostilities in Gaza, said the diplomat, stressing the need to protect civilians in the Palestinian territory.

He reiterated the firm position of the Kingdom, expressed by King Mohammed VI on the Throne Day on July 29, 2023, supporting the just Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent State within the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as capital, living side by side with Israel, in peace and security.

He blamed the dangerous situation in the Middle East to the failure of resolving the Palestinian issue, affirming that the creation of an independent Palestinian State with East Jerusalem as capital, living side by side with Israel and on the basis of the two-State solution, will end the conflict, stop violence, and promote coexistence, security, peace and prosperity.

The Moroccan diplomat urged the international community to find a political solution aimed at achieving a just and comprehensive peace and ensuring security and stability for all the region’s peoples.

Regarding the humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people, the Moroccan official recalled the emergency aid sent to the Palestinian populations upon the Instructions of King Mohammed VI, Chairman of Al-Quds Committee in support of the Palestinians.

Leaders of Western and Arab nations, international agencies and nongovernmental groups gathered Thursday in Paris to press Israel to stop its massive air and ground campaign against civilians in Gaza.

French President Emmanuel Macron opened the conference with an appeal for Israel to protect civilians, saying that “all lives have equal worth” and urging for pauses in the fighting to allow deliveries of desperately needed aid.

He also said that diplomatic work must resume on bringing peace to the Middle East, with a two-state solution.
More than 1.5 million people, -or about 70% of Gaza’s population- have fled their homes, and an estimated $1.2 billion is needed to respond to the crisis in Palestinian areas.
