Togo, Benin slash telecommunication charges

Togo and Benin have inked an agreement cutting significantly telecommunication costs including roaming and internet between the two countries.
The agreement signed between ARCEP Benin and ARCEP Togo, the two regulators, will take effect on January 01 2024.
Per the deal known as “Protocol d’Accord de Free Roaming entre le Togo et le Benin, and signed in Lome on Wednesday October 18, a Togolese visiting Benin will not be charged for incoming call from Togo during his first 30 days of stay in the neighboring country. Prior to the agreements, such a service cost $0.4 per minute. Also, a roaming call to a local Beninese number during a visit in Benin will now cost a Togolese $0.09 unlike $0.48 as it is now.
In addition a roaming call to Togo will from January 2024 cost $0.14 as opposed to $2.24. Internet services are also included in the deal. It will cost a Togolese using his number in Benin $0.0035 for 1Mo of internet. The current price is $12.7. Prices for international calls between the two countries have been slashed dramatically. From January 2024, one minute international call will cost $0.14 unlike $0.36 as it is now.
The agreement binds MTN Benin, Moov Africa Benin, CELTIS Benin, Togo Cellulaire and Moov Africa Togo.
