Niger denies it had accepted Algeria’s mediation proposal

Niger authorities denied news spread by the Algerian foreign minister saying Niamey accepted Algiers’ mediation proposal.

The denial is an embarrassment to the Algerian authorities after the West African Economic grouping rejected Algeria’s mediation in the conflict with the putschists in Niger.

The oppressive and delusionary Algerian regime has been caught in diplomatic lies of its own making, undermining further the rulers’ credibility and deepening their international isolation.
In its desperate quest for diplomatic achievements after unsuccessful bids to join the BRICS and host the African Nations Cups of 2025 or 2027, the Algerian diplomacy announced on Monday that Niger junta accepted President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s mediation initiative to end crisis in the West African country.

Niger’s new rulers denied in a statement they have accepted the six-month transition period suggested by Algiers saying it is up to their own national dialogue to decide on transition.

This denial deals a hard blow to the Algerian regime which is not interested in solving Niger political crisis but is seeking only to serve its own geostrategic agenda.

Algeria has at first condemned the coup before backpedaling by taking a position in support of the Putschists in Niger in rejecting any military operation to restore the constitutional order.

Foreign minister under the administration of deposed president Bazzoum had said Algeria’s mediation is unwelcome because it has already taken a stand in support of the putschists.

He said the Algerian transition proposal was a recognition of the coup.

Algiers’ hasty announcement is another indicator of an agitated diplomacy of a regime in disarray, thirsty for whatsoever gains as it continues to receive blows regionally and internationally.

Algeria’s president has himself spread fake news lying to his own people when he promised an imminent adhesion to the BRICS group.
