CAF / COMEX: Unanimous decision leads Morocco to win AFCON 2025 bid

This Wednsday September 27, the verdict is in! The executive committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) voted unanimously for Morocco. The Kingdom will therefore organize the next African Cup of Nations (CAN 2025) for the second time in its history.

The long-awaited meeting of the CAF Executive Committee took place in Cairo. The members of the continental body decided that Morocco indeed had the strongest bid in this race.

The session started by paying tribute to the memory of the victims of the earthquake which struck the Al Haouz region in Morocco and the victims of the floods in Libya.

In addition to the Moroccan bid, 3 other candidates were in the race. Algeria, Zambia and Nigeria-Benin which had presented a joint application. The latter withdrew their bid a few months ago.

The president of the Algerian Football Federation announced his country’s withdrawal from the race on the eve of the vote. The approach was rejected by CAF. According to several observers, Algeria tried to avoid a second slap after the BRICS rejection., but to no avail.
