Marrakesh hosts international conference on public sector performance & transparency
The city of Marrakesh hosted on Sept.19 an international conference organized by Moroccan Ministry of Economy & Finance, in partnership with the World Bank on “Public Sector Performance and Transparency”.
The event was attended by experts in IT and administrative reform, decision-makers, representatives of international organizations and lecturers from Côte d’Ivoire, Cape Verde, Spain, Greece, Portugal, Rwanda, Senegal, Tunisia, and Morocco.
It provided an opportunity for participants to discuss and share experiences on efficient public spending, the performance of the tax administration and the digital transformation of the administration.
The debates and presentations focused on gender & climate budgets, public procurement, decentralized budgeting, digital economy, and the possibilities offered by new information technologies to improving public services and reducing social inequalities.
The conference comes ahead of the 2023 WB-IMF annual meetings due in Marrakesh Sept.9-15. In a joint statement released Monday, the WB President Ajay Banga and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva have affirmed that the Annual Meetings will take place in the Marrakesh as scheduled despite the earthquake that hit Morocco on Sept.08.
“We believe that the Annual Meetings provide an opportunity for the international community to stand by Morocco and its people, who have once again shown resilience in the face of the tragedy,” added the leaders of the WB and IMF.
The Annual Meetings bring together central bankers, ministers of finance and development, private sector executives, civil society, media, and academics to discuss issues of global concern, including the world economic outlook, global financial stability, poverty eradication, inclusive economic growth and job creation, climate change, and others.
