Moroccan Police foil ecstasy, boufa smuggling operation

The Moroccan police, in collaboration with customs services at Bab Sebta crossing point, thwarted an attempt to smuggle in Morocco a cargo of ecstasy and boufa drug.

Police services apprehended the driver, a Moroccan, and his Spanish wife immediately upon their arrival in Morocco, said a DGSN press release.

Police seized 20,056 ecstasy tablets and over 1,300 grams of “boufa”, a new, cheap drug made from cocaine extract that addicts mix with water before consumption.

The two suspects were remanded in police custody pending further investigation, under the supervision of the public prosecution.

Drug samples were sent to forensics to determine addictive and dangerous chemicals used in the illicit substance.

Last week, customs and police officers at the same crossing point successfully intercepted 70 kg of cannabis resin, locally known as ‘chira’, in two distinct operations.

In a joint routine operation conducted by customs officers and police services, 65 kg of narcotics were seized on Sunday, Aug.27. The substantial quantity of drugs had been meticulously concealed within a gas cylinder that was installed in the trunk of a vehicle registered in Lithuania. The vehicle was being driven by a Lithuanian citizen who was in the process of leaving Morocco.

In another operation conducted on Aug.26, customs and police officers confiscated 5 kg of chira, which was concealed in the form of pellets and tablets. The illicit substance had been hidden within the dashboard of a vehicle being driven by a Moroccan expatriate.

The suspects were handed over to the judicial police for further investigation.
