Japan contributes 900,000 euros to Madagascar’s election basket Fund

Japan has provided Madagascar with 900,000 euros to go into the basket Fund set up by the UNDP, earmarked to back the electoral process.
The African country is set to hold presidential elections in November 2023 and subsequent legislatives and municipal polls.
The UNDP has set up the basket to mobilize funds for the electoral process that the Electoral Commission estimates will cost 32 million euros. The Japanese through its contribution, Madagascar Tribune reports, will provide ten vehicles and one hundred and forty-eight motorcycles for the Electoral Commission and its branches.
Japan’s contribution comes in addition to France, the European Union (UE) and Germany’s grants.
France and the EU early July 2023 vowed to assist Madagascar with one million euro each. Germany is expected to contribute from its pledged-3 million euros for five African countries organizing presidential elections this year.
