Tunisia launches probe into death of two people in train derailment
Tunisia’s State-run company managing railways, SNCFT, launched Wednesday an investigation into the death of two people after a train went off track near M’saken train station, north-East of the country.
A passenger train bound for the coastal city of Gabes derailed early Wednesday near M’saken station in the governorate of Sousse. The accident killed two people: the train driver and a passenger.
The SNCFT, in a statement, has launched a probe into the accident in order to establish causes of the derailment. 34 other people were taken to hospital for treatment. 28 of them have been released, SNCFT said in a statement. The accident occurred 15 months after two trains collided in the south of capital Tunis leaving over 100 people injured.
The worst train accident of the country occurred in 2015 following a collision between a train and a truck at El Fahes, 60 km south of Tunis.
