Tunisia’s media regulator to sue PM Najla Bouden for appointing public radio CEO

Tunisia media regulator, Haica, announced Saturday plans to sue Prime Minister Najla Bouden for the appointment of Henda Ben Alaya Ghribi as new CEO of State-run media “Radio Tunisienne” without consultation – violation of decree-law 16.

Ghribi was promoted to the position last Friday in a decree stemming from President Kais Saied.

However Haica in a statement indicated that the appointment is illegal and violated decree-law 16 that requires that the Authority consults it for any appointment. The regulator called on Bouden to scarp the decision. The regulator also called on journalists to defend their independence and not to succumb to instructions that violate the rules of the profession and the deontology.
