Harbor Breakwaters: Casablanca & Dakhla Ports will use OHLA’s Cubipods
The innovative cubipods designed & engineered by the Spanish construction company OHLA will be used in the Moroccan ports of Casablanca and Dakhla.
In a press release issued Wednesday, OHLA said it signed contracts for the use of its cubipods in two Moroccan ports. Cubipod is a precast element made of mass concrete used to the protection layer of mound breakwaters and to protect riverbanks, and does so through its subsidiary specialized in maritime works, SATO.
Cubipods of up to 55 tons will be used in the expansion of the port of Casablanca, which includes the extension of the breakwater by 400 meter, while in the Dakhla Atlantique port, cubipods of up 15 tons will be installed in the country’s new maritime infrastructure with more than 4.5 km of embankment.
Cubipod has advantages over traditional cubic block, such as more robustness and structural strength, while preventing the pieces from adopting a self-packing arrangement and increases friction with the underlying layer.
