AfDB forecasts 2.3 growth rate for Tunisia over 2023-2024 period
Tunisia will witness a 2.3 per cent economic growth rate in 2023 and 2024, the African Development Bank (AfDB) announced Wednesday, as it presented its economic outlook for 2023.
The Abidjan-based institution also projects inflation to stand at 8.8 per cent over the same period.
The inflation figure is slightly higher than that of the North African country’s National Statistics Agency (INS) forecasted.
Tunisia has turned to the IMF for a $1.9 billion loan to help supplement the national budget which suffers a deficit of $2 billion. To release the loan, the Washington-based organization has conditioned the operation against a set of reforms including the implementation of tax reforms in the 2023 Finance Law, including those related to subsidies and the elimination of barriers to competition.
Unlike the AfDB, the IMF expects Tunisia’s growth rate to be 1.3 in 2023 and 1.9 next year.
