The Moroccan Saharan city of Laayoune has welcomed U.S. Hollywood as its newest sister city in a ceremony held Wednesday in the capital of Moroccan Sahara.
Mayor of Hollywood city, Fl. Josh Levy and Head of Laayoune municipal council, Moulay Hamdi Ould Errachid, have inked the twinning agreement confirming the American recognition of the Moroccanness of the Sahara.
“This agreement marks the beginning of a closer relationship between the two cities in the economic and cultural fields”, said Levy, calling on businessmen from both cities to enhance cooperation ties and joint investments in a wide range of high value sectors.
He also said he was very impressed by the social and economic progress and the modern infrastructures (roads, hospitals, stadiums, schools…) made in Laayoune.
For his part, Mr. Ould Errachid praised the longstanding friendship ties and partnership existing between Rabat and Washington, affirming that the twinning agreement will deepen further Moroccan-American cooperation in all sectors of common interest.
The agreement is expected to give a new impetus to win-win partnership between the sister cities in tourism, trade, green economy, education, industry, culture, arts, academic research and sustainable development.
