American Jewish Committee backs Morocco’s stance on Sahara issue
The American Jewish Committee (AJC) expressed support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over the Sahara while calling for other members of the international community to follow suit.
The remarks were published on the official twitter account of the AJC following a visit by a delegation, led by its chief policy officer Jason Issaacson to the country, including a trip to the Sahara provinces.
In Dakhla, one of the main Sahara coastal cities, Isaacson met local leaders to whom he reiterated the support of his organization to Morocco’s efforts to safeguard its territorial integrity.
The US Committee declared its recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and its support for the autonomy plan in 2020, following a trilateral deal that also marked the resumption of ties between Morocco and Israel.
Since then, Morocco has gathered support for its national cause with major European powers such as Spain and Germany supporting the autonomy plan under the Kingdom’s sovereignty.
The Sahara is now home to consulates representing nearly half of African states and many Arab and Caribbean countries reflecting a growing momentum in favor of Morocco’s Sahara stance.
