Morocco most influential country in Maghreb- Soft Power Index
Morocco outperformed the rest of the Maghreb ranking first in the Global Soft Power index 2023, a ranking underscoring the country’s efforts to polish its image and expand its influence globally.
Soft power refers to a nation’s ability to influence others through non-coercive means, such as culture, values, and foreign policy.
Morocco came in the 55th globally and the third in Africa behind Egypt and South Africa.
Algeria lagged behind in the 86th place globally, while cash-strapped Tunisia took the 83rd place.
The Global Soft Power Index by Brand Finance is a survey-based annual research study on perceptions of nation brands, capturing the opinions of over 100,000 worldwide on 120 nation brands.
The United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany retained their top 3 spots in the ranking.
China retained “future growth potential” despite being overtaken by Japan in the top 5, following reduced ability to engage with global audiences due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Russia is the world’s only nation to lose soft power over the past year, as its reputation plummeted globally in the wake of the war in Ukraine, causing it to drop out of the ranking’s top 10.
