Morocco: Military Service enables young draftees to get skills & dose of patriotism

The registration of young eligible conscripts for 2023 started Wednesday in Morocco and will close on February 25. The 12-month compulsory military service for young people aged between 19 and 25 has been reinstated in 2019 after it was abandoned in 2006.

In 2019, 133,820 young male/female Moroccans registered for the service and 178,166 volunteered in 2021. These figures show the massive adherence of young Moroccans to draft calls to serve and defend their country, learn a life-changing experience.

King Mohammed VI had stressed the importance of military service for young people, saying the conscription enhances the sense of belonging to the homeland.

The military service enables draftees to acquire professional skills which open up large opportunities for them to get jobs and contribute to the social and economic development of their country.

The fit young conscripts, who complete the 12-month training, will also receive payments, allowances and benefits corresponding to their ranks and diplomas.
