Tunisia nabs terrorist connected to 2017 Barcelona attacks
Tunisian security forces have nabbed a terrorist associated with 2017 Barcelona attacks that caused the death of 24 people including 16 civilians.
The terrorist, not identified, was arrested in the town of Fernana, in Jendouba Governorate about 170 km from Tunis, following tipoffs by local population, Tunisie Numérique reports.
The man’s appearance, that of extremist islamists, caught the attention of the population which alerted the police, the media adds.
A search of the man’s residence by security forces revealed the suspect is an international terrorist known to Spanish authorities in connection to 2017 Barcelona attacks.
Two separate car attacks rocked the Spanish city, in August 2017, killing 24 people including 16 civilians. Eight suspects were also killed by police.
Police search also revealed the suspect arrested in Fernana has been extradited from Spain and banned from entering the European Union territory for 10 years.
Police also found at his place manuals on how to surf anonymously on social networks, and other tricks to evade surveillance.
