Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline: A powerful tool for development, regional integration – ONHYM Chief

The Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project is a genuine powerful tool for development and regional integration, stressed, in Abidjan, Director General of Morocco’s National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM), Amina Benkhadra.

“It is a transformative project for our continent,” said Benkhadra who was speaking before a panel of investors on the sidelines of the 3rd edition of the African Investment Forum, organized by the African Development Bank (AfDB) in Abidjan.

She recalled, in this regard, that this strategic infrastructure, result of the enlightened vision of King Mohammed VI and Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari, aims to maximize the economic, social and environmental benefits on the territories concerned through the acceleration of electrification, support for development, boosting of regional economy and economic integration.

For her, the vision that guides this project, the basis of collaboration between Nigeria and Morocco, serves as a basis for the integration in this strategic project of all countries along the pipeline.

It is a question of truly contributing to the development of an important part of the continent and ensuring equitable and sustainable growth for all 350 to 400 million people who will benefit from it, she noted.

She stressed that this meeting organized at the request of the AfDB has allowed to exchange and position this project in the radar of major partners gathered under the Abidjan Forum.

According to Benkhadra, this important platform is a major place of exchange and regular meetings to establish investment agreements.

The development of Africa requires a considerable need for funding, insisted ONHYM Director General, highlighting that this large-scale event was marked by the presence of several heads of state and government.
