Morocco Donates 25K Tons of Fertilizer for Senegalese Small Farmers
Morocco’s OCP has donated Senegal 25,000 tons of phosphate products for the benefit of Senegalese small farmers.
The products were handed over, Thursday in Diamniadio, 30 km from Dakar, at a ceremony attended by the Senegalese Minister of Agriculture, Rural Equipment and Food Sovereignty, Aly Ngouille Ndiaye, Director of OCP’s subsidiary in West Africa, Mohamed Benzekri, and other officials.
The donation, which is part of Morocco’s solidarity with African countries and which comes at the instructions of King Mohammed VI, aims to support Senegal’s food sovereignty policy and to help it in its fight against food insecurity.
The batch is composed of 10,000 tons of DAP (Diammonium Phosphate) and 5,000 tons of TSP (Triple Super Phosphate) and 10,000 tons of fertilizers that will be sold to small Senegalese producers at reduced prices.
Speaking on this occasion, the Senegalese Minister of Agriculture paid tribute to the King for his actions and solidarity initiatives, especially in this difficult global context due to the high cost of fertilizers, indicating that this donation reflects the fraternal relationship that exists between Morocco and Senegal.
He also highlighted the close cooperation existing between his department and the OCP group, a world leader in fertilizers, through agreements and technical activities related to soil fertility and fertilizers.
He stressed that this gesture bears great significance as it will contribute to facilitating small producers’ access to fertilizers, reduce production costs given the high cost of fertilizers, increase national production and fight the high cost of living by improving the availability of agricultural products.
Speaking during the ceremony, Morocco’s Ambassador to Dakar stressed that this fraternal donation of phosphate products reflects the close ties biding the two countries and is part of the historic and constant mobilization of the Kingdom towards Senegal and other African brotherly countries.
