Saudi Arabia eager to draw inspiration from Morocco’s legislative experience
A delegation from the Saudi Shura Council, headed by the council’s Chairman Abdullah Ibn Muhammad Ibn Ibrahim Al Ash-Sheikh, held separate talks Monday in Rabat with the speakers of the two chambers of the Moroccan Parliament (deputies and advisers) on Morocco’s legislative experience.
The talks highlighted by the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding between the Saudi Shoura Council and each of the two chambers of the Moroccan parliament.
The MoUs provide a framework for boosting legislative cooperation and interaction between the parliamentary institutions of the two countries and for the exchange of parliamentary expertise and studies. They also provide for establishing a mechanism for the exchange of visits of parliamentary delegations, setting up joint working groups, and strengthening relations between members of the legislative institutions, in order to address issues of mutual interest and coordinate stands within regional and international parliamentary forums.
In this connection, the MoUs cover security affairs, the fight against terrorism and extremism, geostrategic issues, as well as issues related to culture, economy, trade, climate and religion. They likewise cover investment, food security, human rights promotion, scientific research, and technological advances, mainly e-parliamentary action.
The three parties expressed their readiness to consolidate legislative cooperation while endeavoring to ensure that the level of this cooperation be up to the excellent and brotherly ties binding King Mohammed VI and King Salman Ben Abdelaziz Al Saud.
They also emphasized their full support for the security, stability and territorial integrity of both countries, while expressing their mutual willingness to advance cooperation and consultation between the legislative institutions.
The meetings of the Saudi delegation provided an opportunity to highlight the celebration this year of the 66th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Saudi Arabia.
