Morocco: Police foil drug trafficking attempt in Casablanca
Elements of the prefectural service of the judicial police of Casablanca have foiled Friday, on the basis of accurate information provided by the services of the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), a drug trafficking attempt.
The police seized 2 tons of chira on board a truck transporting goods and arrested the truck driver and his assistant, aged 34 and 44 years.
A statement by the national police (DGSN) said that this operation which was conducted at the toll station of the Casablanca freeway, allowed the seizure of a truck transporting goods from Jorf Al Malha and bound for the southern provinces of the Kingdom.
The search operations have enabled the seizure of 2 tons of chira which were intended for international trafficking, as well as a rubber boat, two marine engines and a sum of money, probably derived from this criminal activity.
The suspects were placed in custody and investigations are underway to determine the national and international ramifications of this criminal network and to apprehend the main persons involved in these criminal acts.
This operation is part of the tireless efforts of the security services to fight international drug trafficking networks at national and international levels.
