Libya’s HoR to unveil new cabinet today
The Libyan parliament, House of Representatives (HoR), is set to appoint a new cabinet today, Tuesday, house member Abdelmoneim al-Orafi has confirmed, Libya Update media reports.
Al-Orafi also indicated in press statements that the Government of National Unity (GNU), led by Abdulhamid Dbeibeh has officially ended its mandate, pointing out that the candidates to head the new government will present their candidacy documents on Tuesday.
The MP added that there are known personalities, including deputies and public figures, waiting for the announcement of the formation of a new government to submit their candidacy documents to head the government.
There has been growing demands for the Dbeibah-led GNU to be removed and replaced by a new government.
Dbeibah, appointed in February 2021, is facing home criticism for taking advantage of his position to impose himself and his close circle.
During a HoR session Monday, Speaker Aqila Saleh considered that the GNU was no longer legitimate. He also called on the Attorney General to investigate what the government spent, especially in the development and emergency items, and the transfer from one item to another.
