Algeria bans sale of cooking oil to the under-aged
From now on people in Algeria will have to show their ID to be allowed to buy cooking oil! This is not a joke! Algeria has officially banned people under 18 years old from buying cooking oil in a bid to manage an acute shortage of essential commodities.
The decision was announced by the trade minister to the media much to the dismay of the impoverished Algerian people.
The shortage was due to Algeria’s drastic import cuts of a list of essential food including soja used by Algerian’s agri-food industry to make cooking oil.
Images abound on social media showing long queues for oil and fighting within supermarkets as people rush to grab a bottle of cooking oil!
Official media blames speculators and shows reports regularly of seized oil cargoes in a bid to whitewash the regime and hide its collapse in making essential goods available.
Instead of blaming a failed government policy, some pro-military junta media such as TSA blame citizens and their cooking habits saying Algerians tend to fry a lot!
The shortage in foodstuff is expanding as the price of bread surges and milk becomes a rare commodity in 2022 Algeria.
This takes place as the purchasing power of Algerian erodes under high inflation and a deliberate devaluation of the dinar boding ill for Algeria’s social peace and the well-being of ordinary Algerians.
Meanwhile, Algerians are bracing for tougher days as the government has no more resources to subsidize foodstuff and other services.
