Covid-19: Over 9.8 Mln cases confirmed in Africa
Over 9.8 million new coronavirus cases have been reported in Africa, which is accounting for 3.3 pc of the worldwide confirmed cases, according to latest data released by Africa Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).
More than 229,101 people died of covid-19 in the continent wherein CFR (Case Fatality Ratio) is higher than that reported globally.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 95 pc of the African Union members have experienced a third wave, 76 pc of African countries have experienced a fourth wave, and five countries (Algeria, Kenya, Mauritius, Congo Republic and Somalia) are experiencing a fifth wave of Covid-19 cases.
According to the Africa CDC, the overall daily number of new cases being reported across the continent is on an upward trend. South Africa has the most confirmed cases with a tally of 3.4 million infected people.
Southern Africa has recorded the highest number of new coronavirus cases, followed by North Africa, East and Central Africa region.
