Will Morocco & The Netherlands Conclude an Extradition Treaty ?
The Netherlands and Morocco are looking into the possibility of signing an extradition treaty, according to Dutch daily NRC which cites a letter sent by Foreign minister Ben Knapen to the Lower House of the European country’s parliament.
The treaty is part of a broader action plan agreed last July between the two countries to strengthen dialogue and cooperation on several issues of common interest, said the newspaper.
Concluding an extradition agreement will enable the two countries to enhance their cooperation in the fields of security and justice, added the daily.
In his letter to MPs, the Dutch top diplomat said the two countries have agreed in the field of migration to improve cooperation in the management of migrants’ return.
The migration issue, the case of fugitive Said Chaou and the Dutch meddling into Morocco’s internal affairs had sparked tension between the two countries.
The Moroccan-Dutch action plan was signed last July. Few months later, the two countries held their first meeting for the implementation of this action plan which also includes cooperation in the fields of culture, social security, and climate change.
