Morocco starts administering third dose this Monday

Morocco has started administering a third dose of the coronavirus vaccine this Monday Oct. 4, in a bid to further reinforce collective immunity.

People who took Covid-19 vaccine shots over six months ago will be contacted first through SMS to take a third jab, the health ministry said in a statement.

It said targeted categories can go to any vaccination center to take the third jab wherever they are.

For this booster shot, the type of vaccine (Pfizer, Sinopharm…) will be independent of the type received in the first two doses (or the single dose in the case of Janssen), as many health sector professionals have already approved mixing vaccines.

With this decision, Morocco joins the limited club of nations that are making progress towards controlling Covid-19 spread.

Morocco is already an African vaccine champion where over 22.7 million or 61% of the population received at least one jab, while over 17 million Moroccans are fully vaccinated after receiving a second dose of Sinopharm or Astrazeneca. Morocco has also added Pfizer to the vaccines it administers along with a limited quantity of Johnson and Johnson.

Life is also on course to restore normalcy after the curfew was delayed to 23:00, in a move that augurs well for hotels, restaurants, gyms, and cafes.
