US supports Morocco’s police narcotics investigation with vehicles, forensic lab test equipment

The United States donated Tuesday several vehicles and forensic lab test equipment to Morocco’s national Police to facilitate drug trafficking investigations and other operations.

The donation was a joint effort between the US Africa Command (AFRICOM), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics & Law Enforcement (INL), says a press release issued Wednesday by the US embassy in Rabat.

The grant confirms the close security cooperation existing between the two long-standing friends, partners and allies. It is also a recognition of the key role played by Morocco’s security services, one of the premier law enforcement institutions in the region, in foiling several regional and international terror plots.

The US commends Morocco’s comprehensive counter-terrorism (CT) strategy that includes vigilant security measures, regional and international cooperation, and counter-radicalization policies.

Last June, the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) opened in Morocco’s capital city of Rabat its regional office for CT training and cooperation in Africa.
