Morocco to face Ghana, Comoros, Gabon at 2020 AFCON in Cameroon

The Atlas Lions of Morocco will play Ghana, Comoros and Gabon for the group matches of the 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be played in Cameroon.

The African football governing body, CAF, drew the groups Tuesday in the Cameroonian capital Yaoundé, one of the five cities to host the various matches of the tournament scheduled to start January 09.

Morocco, per the draw, will take on four-time champions Ghana on January 10, 2022 at Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium, in Yaoundé, in Group C.

The Moroccan team led by manager Vahid Halilhodic will also face under dogs Comoros four days later at the same venue in the Cameroonian capital. For the last fixture, the kingdom’s squad will play on January 18 Gabon, hosts of 2017 AFCON.

Group A following the draw, is made of Cameroon, Burkina Faso and Cape Verde. Nigeria and Egypt are expected to dominate Group D that includes Sudan and Guinea-Bissau. Reigning champions, Algeria, are lodged in Group E, alongside Côte d’Ivoire, Sierra Leone and Equatorial Guinea.
The last pool, Group F, is made of Tunisia, Mali, Mauritania and Gambia. The 24-nation tournament scheduled to take place this year, was postponed to next year due to the pandemic.
The competition will wind up on February 6th in Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium in Yaoundé.
