Morocco bans more international flights to counter new virus variants

Morocco has suspended flights with four more countries in a bid to curb contagion after Europe in particular was hit by new Covid-19 variants.

Direct flights with Switzerland, Turkey, Germany and the Netherlands are now unavailable to limit contagion. The decision will be updated every 15 days.

Morocco had previously banned international travel with Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK for contagion fears.

The pandemic has been on the decline in Morocco which has seen a significant drop in daily registered cases since it tightened restrictive measures including a night curfew in place since January.

Morocco has registered 481,709 coronavirus cases, including 8574 deaths and 466,105 recoveries.

Morocco is also home to 94% of Africa’s vaccinated population after it inoculated 2.63 million people.
