Rashmi Chowdhary, Morocco’s 1st Honorary Consul in Calcutta

Indian businesswoman Rashmi Chowdhary has become Morocco’s first honorary consul taking office in Calcutta, capital of the Indian State of West Bengal.

Mrs. Chowdhary has started her new job in the consulate which has been inaugurated during a ceremony attended by Moroccan ambassador to India Mohamed Maliki, several local business leaders, representatives of finance corporations, political personalities, artists and journalists.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony held in full respect of health guidelines due to Covid-19, the Moroccan diplomat stressed the importance of this new consulate in strengthening further the friendship and cooperation ties between the two countries in trade, investment, tourism and other sectors.

Mr. Maliki hailed the excellent Moroccan-Indian relations and highlighted the huge business opportunities offered by the North African Kingdom to investors in various fast-growing sectors.

The visit paid by King Mohammed VI to India in 2015 has given a new impetus to the partnership between the two countries in various sectors of common interest, said the diplomat.

This is the second consulate installed by Morocco in India after the one opened in Mumbai in 2007.
