Azerbaijan backs Morocco’s actions in Guerguarat

Azerbaijan was the latest state to have openly expressed support for Morocco’s actions in Guerguarat aiming at restoring the free flow of goods and passengers.

The passage was blocked for three weeks by the Polisario and all UN attempts failed to clear the road until Morocco intervened to reopen the road militarily on November 13 and ensure its safety once and for all.

“The republic of Azerbaijan supports Morocco’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as Morocco’s efforts to restore the free flow of goods and passengers in the Guerguarat crossing with Mauritania,” the Azeri foreign ministry said in a statement.

Azerbaijan also expressed support for UN efforts to find a lasting and fair political solution to the Sahara conflict in line with Security Council resolutions.
