Eastern Caribbean States support Morocco’s action in Guerguarat

The Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) has expressed, on behalf of its member states, its support “for the measures taken by the Moroccan Government to preserve peace and stability in the buffer zone of Guerguarat, and to secure the free movement of people and goods to the African continent.”

In a statement published on its official website, the Organization urged the various parties to “adhere to the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, in particular Resolutions 24.14 and 24.40 which call for preserving peace and order in this region of North Africa”.

The Organization called on all parties to “refrain from any act of aggression and to ensure the safety of civilians and the free movement of people and goods in the Guerguarat area”, calling on all parties to comply with all the existing ceasefire agreements.

Some members of the OECS, like the Commonwealth of Dominica, had already expressed solidarity with Morocco and condemned the acts of provocation, and unacceptable practices, by the polisario militias in the Guerguarat buffer zone.

“The Commonwealth of Dominica stands in solidarity with the Kingdom of Morocco in preserving its sovereignty and territorial integrity and condemns the acts of provocation, banditry, robbery, and other unacceptable practices, by the polisario militias, which seek to deliberately interrupt the civil movement of people and goods in the buffer zone of Guergarate,” Dominica’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The OECS is an eleven-member grouping comprising Antigua and Barbuda, Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
