Morocco, most peaceful North African country-Australian Think Tank

The Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), an Australian think tank based in Sydney, ranked Morocco as the safest country in Africa in a benchmark index measuring peace in 172 independent states and territories.

Morocco was ranked 83rd globally ahead of Tunisia 92nd and Algeria 117 and the sixth in the Arab region where it was only outperformed by Gulf states of Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, Oman, and Jordan.

The GPI covers 99.7% of the world’s population, using 23 qualitative and quantitative indicators from highly respected sources, and measures the state of peace.

The index uses three thematic domains: the level of Societal Safety and Security, the extent of Ongoing Domestic and International Conflict, and the degree of Militarization.
