COVID-19: Morocco records 19 fatalities in 24 hours, highest death count since start of pandemic

Morocco recorded in 24 hours, between Sunday and Monday, 19 fatalities, which is the highest daily death count since the virus was first detected in the country on March 2.

 

The figures were announced by the Moroccan Ministry of Health, which also reported 659 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of cases recorded in Morocco to 26,196.

Nearly 90 of these patients are considered to be in serious or critical condition due to age and / or chronic illnesses.

The total deaths recorded in Morocco amount to 401, with the mortality rate standing at 1.53%.

The ministry also recorded 533 new recoveries, which brings the total number of recoveries to 18,968. According to the ministry, the recovery rate increased slightly to 72.41%, while the number of COVID-19 active cases stands at 6,827.

The ministry explained that 83% of new cases were detected as part of the contact tracking system, which has so far reached 123,067 contact persons, including 16,226 currently under medical monitoring.

 

Approximately 1,290,665 suspected virus carriers have tested negative for COVID-19 since the pandemic emerged in Morocco.
