Italy appreciates Morocco’s commitment to settlement of Libyan crisis

Italy’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Luigi Di Maio has expressed his country’s appreciation for Morocco’s contribution to regional and international efforts seeking to find a peaceful settlement to the crisis in Libya.

Di Maio welcomed Morocco’s role during a phone call with his Moroccan peer Nasser Bourita on Saturday, August 1.

The two officials’ talks focused on the “constant evolution” of cooperation between Italy and Morocco in the frame of the strategic partnership signed in November 2019 and on topics concerning multilateral issues of common interest.

The phone call followed an intense diplomatic activity in Rabat with the visit of a high-level delegation from Libya on July 26 for consultation on the crisis and the visit on July 29 of Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan.

During meetings with the visiting delegations, Nasser Bourita reiterated Morocco’s commitment to a Libyan-Libyan political solution and stressed Rabat’s rejection of military intervention in the country.

He explained that such interventions will complicate efforts to reach a peaceful solution to the crisis and jeopardize the security and stability of North Africa and the entire Arab region.

The Moroccan FM reiterated that Morocco has no agenda in Libya and reaffirmed the Kingdom’s readiness to continue to defend all initiatives that seek to restore stability and security in the country.
